Kaepernick paces Nevada in milestone rout of New Mexico State

Nov 21, 2010 - 6:58 AM Reno, NV (Sports Network) - Colin Kaepernick threw for 251 yards and two touchdowns and also ran for a score to help No. 19 Nevada crush New Mexico State, 52-6, at Mackay Stadium.

Vai Taua compiled 111 yards and two touchdowns on the ground and caught a 79- yard touchdown for the Wolf Pack (10-1, 5-1 WAC), who tallied the 500th win in program history.

The blowout victory follows last week's one-point win over Fresno State and sets up a crucial conference showdown with No. 3 Boise State next Friday.

Andrew Manley threw for 220 yards on 19-of-39 efficiency and was intercepted twice for the Aggies (2-9, 1-6), who have dropped their last three games and five of their last six. Taveon Rogers had 94 yards on four catches in the loss.

The Wolf Pack chewed up 5:43 off the clock during their opening touchdown drive and traveled 75 yards on 14 plays, going up 7-0 when Taua finished it with a two-yard run.

During the ensuing kick off, a holding call put the home team's offense back on its own 21 yard line. After a 44-yard completion to Rogers, the Aggies stalled out on the 28-yard line and Tyler Stampler missed a 46-yard field goal.

Nevada took advantage of the miss and moved ahead 10-0 with an Anthony Martinez's 36-yard field goal with 6:38 left to play in the first quarter.

The Wolf Pack continued to roll in the second, finding the end zone when Kaepernick hit Virgil Green for a 22-yard touchdown, then going up 24-0 on Kaepernick's nine-yard run.

New Mexico State finally got on the board with a 47-yard field goal by Stampler with under a minute to play in the half, but Nevada answered back quickly with a score of its own when Kaepernick completed a pass to Taua, who rumbled 79 yards to make the halftime score 31-3.

The second half scoring was started by Stampler, who made a 39-yard field goal with 9:08 left to play in the third.

Taua collected his third touchdown of the game on a seven-yard run with 4:44 left in the third quarter and Nevada took a 45-6 lead with just over 10 minutes left to play after Lampford Mark broke free for a 57-yard touchdown run.

With 5:17 left in the game, Manley was intercepted by Khalid Wooten, who returned it 90 yards for a touchdown.

Nevada has won six of the last seven meetings and 12 out of 14 in the history of the matchup...Nevada's only loss this season came to Hawaii on October 16...The Wolf Pack outrushed the Aggies 243-89 en route to 494 yards of total offense.
