Lamar defeats Webber International 21-14
Sep 12, 2010 - 4:07 AM BEAUMONT, Texas(AP) -- Lamar was victorious in its first home game in 21 years as Andre Bevil threw for three touchdowns in a 21-14 win against Webber International on Saturday night.Cody Hussey rushed for 81 yards, and Billy Chavis caught a TD pass and blocked a punt for the Cardinals (1-1).
An announced crowd of 16,600 filled renovated Provost Umphrey Stadium to watch the resurrected program at Lamar, which dropped football after the 1989 season.
Torrence Moise and Taylor Atwood ran for touchdowns for Webber International (2-1), an NAIA independent in Babson Park, Fla., with an enrollment of about 700.
Bevil was 16 of 34 for 228 yards for Lamar, which is playing as an independent before becoming Southland Conference football member in 2011.
