N. Carolina A&T 17, Bethune-Cookman 67

Oct 29, 2010 - 5:10 AM DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (AP) -- Isidore Jackson scored three touchdowns and Matt Johnson and Jackie Wilson added two apiece to propel Bethune-Cookman past to a 67-17 victory over North Carolina A&T on Thursday in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference game that was delayed during the first half by a lengthy power failure.

The Wildcats (8-0, 5-0 MEAC), were ranked 12th in the latest FCS poll.

Mike Mayhew, the MEAC's leading rusher, finished with 211 yards on 31 carries, giving him 1,042 yards rushing this season for the Aggies (1-8, 1-5), who have lost seven straight to Bethune-Cookman.

Johnson scored his first TD from 28 yards out, and Jackson followed with scoring runs of 5 and 2 yards before the blackout hit during a brief lightning storm that moved through the area.

Jackson's second TD, which gave the Wildcats a 19-0 lead, came with 3:37 left in the first quarter, just seconds before the stadium lights went out. Power was restored after a delay of 1 hour, 42 minutes and the game resumed with Bethune-Cookman kicker Kory Kowalski making the lead 20-0.

Ricky Lewis scored on a 4-yard run for A&T with 2:05 left in the first quarter, but Bethune-Cookman answered with two quick scores - a 1-yard dive by Androse Bell and another 5-yarder by Jackson to go up 32-7.

A&T's Dominique Drake followed with a 1-yard TD run, and Johnson matched him with a 24-yard TD before Sullivan Shidler of the Aggies nailed a 31-yard field goal making 39-17 at halftime.

Bethune-Cookman, which forced five turnovers, added four second-half touchdowns: a 37-yard pass from Johnson to Eddie Poole, Wilson's runs of 3 and 13 yards and a 6-yard pass from Troy Dannehower to Pat Harris.

Johnson finished with 137 yards rushing on 10 carries and was 9 of 12 for 154 yards.

The Wildcats, who entered the game leading the FCS with an average of 478.9 yards of total offense, finished with 621 yards, surpassing 600 for the third time this season.

Because of the delay, the game lasted 5:01.
