No. 21 Wisconsin blanks opponent again in rout of Tennessee Tech

Sep 7, 2013 - 10:36 PM Madison, WI (Sports Network) - The trifecta of Melvin Gordon, James White and Corey Clement rolled to 398 yards rushing and four touchdowns as 21st-ranked Wisconsin demolished Tennessee Tech, 48-0, in the first-ever meeting between the programs from Camp Randall Stadium.

"It's been fun, just big competition with those guys to see who's next. We've probably got the fans just sitting there like, 'who's next,' so it's fun to go out there and compete and make those plays," Gordon said.

Clement led the way with 149 yards and two scores on 13 carries, with Gordon adding 140 yards and one touchdown on nine totes and White contributing 109 yards and a score on 22 rushes for the Badgers (2-0), who head to Arizona State next Saturday before beginning their Big Ten slate two weeks from today by hosting Purdue.

Joel Stave finished 24-of-28 passing for 219 yards and three touchdowns, with Jared Abbrederis, Derek Straus and Brian Wozniak the beneficiaries of Stave's acumen in the end zone.

Darian Stone completed only 8-of-19 attempts for 69 yards for the Golden Eagles (1-1), who were held to 113 yards of total offense in defeat.

"I'm proud of my guys, I thought they played their hearts out, they tried hard, we're better than that, we can play a little better than that," said Tech head coach Watson Brown. "A lot of times physical play can make you not play as well. And there's people close to Darian's face which makes it tough to execute plays."

Stave capped Wisconsin's opening drive with a 3-yard strike to Straus. The six-play series was set up when Darius Hillary punched the ball from TTU back Stephen Bush and Dezmen Southward recovered and advanced to the visitors' 22- yard line.

Two possessions later, Gordon's 65-yard run down the left sideline to the Golden Eagles' six set up a 1st-and-goal. On the next play, Stave hit Abbrederis for the score and 14-0 lead.

It was 21-0 for the hosts just under five minutes into the second quarter when Gordon broke free for a 37-yard touchdown, and the Badgers took a 28-0 advantage into halftime after Stave connected with Wozniak for a 6-yard score in the final seconds.

White's 2-yard dash up the middle early in the third quarter that capped a 76- yard, 12-play march provided a 34-0 margin for Wisconsin after Kyle French missed the extra point.

Clement took it in from the one with just under six minutes played in the fourth.

Later in the period, and one play after Leo Musso outdueled his man and picked off Stone deep in Wisconsin territory, Clement galloped 75 yards up the left side to paydirt and a 48-0 score.

Things continued to go wrong late for Tennesee Tech. A botched punt on a late possession set up the Badgers on the visitors' 17-yard line, though Jack Russell's 31-yard attempt caromed off the right upright.
