No. 13 Arizona State routs Arizona

Dec 1, 2013 - 8:05 AM Tempe, AZ (SportsNetwork.com) - D.J. Foster rushed for 124 yards and two touchdowns in the 13th-ranked Arizona State Sun Devils' 58-21 victory over the Arizona Wildcats.

De'Marieya Nelson carried the ball eight times for 35 yards and two scores for the Sun Devils (10-2, 8-1 Pac-12), who will host No. 8 Stanford in next Saturday's Pac-12 title game with a spot in the Rose Bowl on the line.

"My coaches and my teammates challenged me," Foster said. "I just tried to step up and my coaches and my teammates prepared me well for this week and I just wanted them to have the trust in me that nothing was going to let down."

Taylor Kelly completed 13-of-25 passes for 274 yards, two touchdowns and an interception for Arizona State, which has won seven in a row. Jaelen Strong caught four passes for 142 yards and a score.

"This one stings, but we have a bowl game with a month to prepare," Denker said. "I know we are going to be focused on that, so if we go out with a win at the bowl game I'll feel better about that."

Ka'Deem Carey carried the ball 32 times for 157 yards and a touchdown for Arizona. He piled up 206 yards and four touchdowns on 48 carries in last week's win against Oregon.

Arizona State scored 13 points in the first quarter and never looked back. Zane Gonzalez made field goals of 38 and 21 yards on the Sun Devils' first two possessions.

Denker was intercepted by Alden Darby with 10 minutes left in the half. Just five plays later, Nelson scored from one yard out to make it a 27-0 game.

The Wildcats finally got on the board with 4:14 to go. Denker capped a 12- play drive with a 1-yard TD run.

Jake Smith missed a 42-yard field goal on the next Arizona possession. Gonzalez made a 23-yard field goal on the ensuing Arizona State series.

Carey scored from eight yards out to start a high-scoring third quarter.

Arizona was driving late in the period when Denker fumbled. The visitors got a lucky bounce, though, and Garic Wharton picked up the loose ball and ran in for an Arizona touchdown.

Strong responded with a 61-yard TD catch with 1:17 remaining.

Foster and Nelson scored in the fourth frame.
