Blount, Oregon pound Utah St.

Sep 7, 2008 - 1:38 AM EUGENE, Oregon (Ticker) -- Oregon's offense picked up right where it left off last week.

After a 34-point thrashing of Washington, No. 16 Oregon set a school record with 688 yards of total offense in a 66-24 rout of Utah State on Saturday.

LeGarrette Blount rushed for 132 yards and two touchdowns as the Ducks broke a 19-year-old record for offensive output in a game. The previous mark was 667 yards against BYU on November 4, 1989.

"It just shows how much potential we have," Oregon quarterback Justin Roper said. "We made some mistakes today too - some penalties, some dropped balls and I threw an interception.

"We can improve on those things so if we can have this productive of an offense with the errors, just imagine what we can do."

Blount scored on runs of 36 and 1 yards in a 24-point second quarter, helping the Ducks (2-0) build a 38-14 cushion. The junior filled in for starter Jeremiah Johnson, who left the game in the first quarter with a shoulder injury.

A 3-yard touchdown run by Andre Crenshaw, who carried 10 times for 75 yards, and a 20-yard touchdown pass from Roper to Terence Scott had staked Oregon to a 14-0 lead after the first quarter.

Roper, who left last Saturday's 44-10 victory over Washington with a minor concussion, completed 13-of-19 passes for 173 yards and also ran for a score.

"He (Scott) has become a very reliable guy," Roper said. "He can shake and make a guy miss, he's very fast and he catches the ball consistently which is the most important thing. But I really have eight go-to guys in this offense because everybody is so good."

After Blount extended the Ducks' lead to 21-0 with a 1-yard score, the Aggies got on the board on a 15-yard touchdown pass from Diondre Borel to Curtis Marsh. Oregon answered with two quick scores, one by Blount and another by Scott, a 51-yard scamper that made it 35-7.

Chris Harper, who split second-half action at quarterback with Jeremiah Masoli, ran for a 12-yard touchdown and threw a 3-yard score to Rory Cavaille in the third quarter.

"I felt like we never let up on them," Harper said. "There might have been a couple of spurts where we eased off but we always turned it right back up and we came out with a really big win."

Borel, who came on for starter Sean Setzer, was 15-of-22 for 172 yards and a pair of touchdowns for Utah State (0-2).

"It was a tough environment," Borel said. "This them, they're a good team and they are ranked. They played fast and aggressive, and it was a lot of fun."

"They wore us down, especially when we couldn't make first downs" Utah State head coach Brent Guy said. "When your defense has to stay out there and keep going out there, I think that wore us down."

Remene Alston ran for 71 yards on 11 carries and capped the scoring for the Ducks with a 1-yard touchdown in the fourth.
