Bradford, Oklahoma wallop Washington

Sep 14, 2008 - 4:33 AM SEATTLE (Ticker) -- Oklahoma made sure Washington didn't endure any last-second pain on Saturday. The third-ranked Sooners made the Huskies pay for 60 minutes in a 55-14 waltz.

Sam Bradford led the Sooners, completing 18-of-21 passes for 304 yards and five touchdowns in less than three quarters and rushing for another. Chris Brown and DeMarco Murray each broke the 100-yard mark rushing for Oklahoma.

Oklahoma (3-0) ran up the game's first 41 points as it moved at will through Washington's defense.

Bradford threw TD strikes to Juaquin Iglesias and Jermaine Gresham in the first quarter. He scored on a 1-yard run in the second quarter to up the lead to 20-0.

Bradford then found Ryan Broyles from 4 yards for a score and Mossis Madu scored on a 1-yard run to make it 34-0 at the half.

"We've done too many things wrong to win this football game," Washington coach Tyrone Willingham said during his halftime radio comments.

Bradford and Broyles teamed on a 77-yard scoring connection 1:18 into the third quarter before Husky quarterback Jake Locker stopped the carnage with a 15-yard touchdown run with 5:37 left in the third quarter.

Bradford countered that score with a 64-yard touchdown pass to Jermaine Gresham that made it 48-7.

Joey Halzle replaced Bradford and marched the Sooners 68 yards on a drive that was capped on Madu's 3-yard run.

"It was cool, we came in and did what we wanted," defensive lineman Gerald McCoy said. "(Locker) is a real good player, but I think we handled him pretty well."

Oklahoma posted 591 yards of total offense. The Sooners have outscored their opponents 164-48 this season.

"I felt great about the attitude we carried onto the field," said Bob Stoops, who captured his 100th victory as Oklahoma coach. "Our players really took the field in a strong way."

Oklahoma was the highest-ranked nonconference team to visit Husky Stadium since 1969 The Sooners scored their most points on the road since a 56-25 win at Texas Tech on Nov. 22, 2003.

The crushing defeat came a week after Willingham's Huskies lost on a blocked PAT after a 15-yard excessive celebration penalty was called on Locker's last-second TD against Brigham Young.

The defeats was the worst home loss for Washington since 1929, when it lost 48-0 to Southern California.

This was the worst loss of the Willingham era, surpassing a 56-17 beating by Cal in his second game as Washington coach.
