Young sets school record as TCU hammers Wyoming

Oct 26, 2008 - 2:16 AM FORT WORTH, Texas (Ticker) -- Jimmy Young could not be stopped Saturday.

Young had a school-record 226 receiving yards with three touchdowns to lead 15th-ranked TCU to a 54-7 rout of Wyoming in a Mountain West Conference whooping.

"It feels great," Young said of his record-setting performance. "But it is something that I'm going to have to forget about for the next couple of weeks and wait until the season is over, because now my focus has to be on UNLV."

Andy Dalton passed for 323 yards and four scores with a rushing TD for TCU (8-1, 5-0 MWC), which has won three straight games since being humbled by Oklahoma on September 27.

"Our defense is good and they deserve the recognition that they receive, but as an offense, we want to come out and make a statement to let people know that we can play too," Young said. "We have weapons on the offensive side of the ball, just like we do on defense."

Young made five receptions, averaging 45.2 yards per catch. The sophomore opened the scoring 99 seconds into the contest, hauling in a 60-yard TD strike from Dalton.

"I thought (Young) was coming on in the last part of the season in 2007," TCU coach Gary Patterson said. "He made a tremendous catch in Houston last year at the bowl game. He's a good player."

A 6-1 speedster, Young had a 55-yard TD reception early in the second quarter to increase the Horned Frogs' advantage to 14-0.

After TCU took a 24-7 edge into the intermission, Young setup Dalton's 1-yard rushing score with a 65-yard catch. He then collected a 39-yard TD catch late in the third quarter to extend the lead to 38-7.

"They just have too much speed and athleticism and we couldn't keep up with them," Wyoming coach Joe Glenn said. "Not only did they make our offense and defense look bad, but our special teams as well."

Devin Moore rushed for 103 yards and a touchdown for the Cowboys (2-6, 0-5), who committed two turnovers and surrendered 439 yards from scrimmage.

"It took us a while to get adjusted to what they were doing on offense," TCU linebacker Robert Henson said. "I think the biggest change we had to make was that we had to get back to trusting each other to take care of our responsibilities."

"The Cowboys are good on defense and their two running backs ran the ball well against us," Patterson said. "The game wasn't about stats for us, we were just trying to win. Joe Glenn is a class act and so are his players."
