Boise State takes on streaking Utah

Sep 26, 2006 - 8:11 PM No. 22 Boise St (4-0) at Utah (3-1), 3:00 pm EDT

SALT LAKE CITY (Ticker) - Jared Zabransky and Boise State won a shootout last week and can expect to be involved in another one Saturday against Utah.

The 22nd-ranked Broncos step out of Western Athletic Conference play to take on the Utes of the Mountain West Conference. Boise State will be looking to remain in the rankings and improve to 11-0 all-time against opponents currently in the MWC since moving up to Division I-A in 1996.

Zabransky threw for three touchdowns and Ian Johnson ran for two more scores as the Broncos (4-0) posted a 41-34 victory over Hawaii last week to improve to 48-2 at Bronco Stadium since 1999.

Boise State had been holding opponents to eight points per game, but on Saturday, it surrendered more than four times as many points and 511 yards of total offense.

Utah (3-1) opened the season with a 31-10 loss at UCLA but has been on a roll since, outscoring the opposition by a whopping 131-14.

Eric Weddle had a big day on both sides of the ball last Saturday to lead Utah to a 38-7 victory over San Diego State. A defensive back, Weddle scored on a two-yard run and returned two interceptions for TDs against the Aztecs.

Boise State has won the last two meetings to grab a 3-2 series lead.
