Nebraska looks for 19th straight home win over Kansas

Sep 26, 2006 - 8:30 PM Kansas (3-1) at No. 21 Nebraska (3-1), 7:00 pm EDT

LINCOLN, Nebraska (Ticker) - The longest continuous series in the nation finally went Kansas' way last season. The way Nebraska is playing, things should get back on track this time around.

Visiting Kansas takes on 21st-ranked Nebraska for the 101st consecutive season on Saturday in the Big 12 Conference opener for both teams.

Last year, the Jayhawks posted a 40-15 victory over the Cornhuskers to halt Nebraska's 36-game winning streak in the series.

The Jayhawks will be hard-pressed to repeat the success they enjoyed last season, as they have lost 18 straight meetings in Lincoln since a 23-13 win in 1968 and the Cornhuskers are coming off an impressive performance. Marlon Lucky ran for three touchdowns and Nebraska (3-1, 0-0 Big 12 North) dominated on both sides of the ball to post a 56-0 victory over Troy last weekend.

The Cornhusker defense posted its first shutout since a 28-0 blanking of Iowa State in 2003, while the offense rebounded from a sub-par performance a week earlier against Southern California, when it was held to 211 yards, including only 68 rushing, in a 28-10 loss.

While Lucky paced the ground attack against Troy with a career-high 156 yards on 10 carries, Zac Taylor turned in an efficient performance, completing 15-of-18 passes for 269 yards and two TDs.

Kansas (3-1, 0-0 North) is coming off a 13-7 victory over South Florida in which Jon Cornish ran for 105 yards, including a go-ahead two-yard TD on the first play of the fourth quarter, on 26 carries.

Senior Adam Barmann completed 25-of-35 passes for 273 yards in his first start of the season for the Jayhawks.

Nebraska leads the series, 87-22-3, including a 41-15-2 edge in Lincoln.
