UConn runs over Baylor 30-22
Sep 20, 2009 - 12:24 AM By JAIME ARON AP Sports WriterWACO, Texas(AP) -- Andre Dixon ran for 149 yards and three touchdowns and Jordan Todman ran for 103 yards, sending Connecticut home from its longest road trip in school history with a 30-22 victory over Baylor on Saturday.
The Huskies (2-1) rebounded nicely from a loss at home to North Carolina by scoring on three of their first four drives. They were up only 13-7, though, until breaking the game open at the start of the second half by turning a pair of Baylor fumbles into touchdowns by Dixon.
With Dixon and Todman each going over 100 yards for the second time this season, quarterback Cody Endress had an easier time filling in for injured starter Zach Frazer. He was 12 of 23 for 147 yards with no turnovers.
The Bears (1-1) were coming off an encouraging start with a road win at Wake Forest and were seeking revenge after losing a tight game at Connecticut last year. Jay Finley gave them an early boost with a 72-yard touchdown run on their third play.
Baylor's defense was hardly able to stop a running attack it knew was coming, and the offense wouldn't gain another 72 yards until late in the fourth quarter, after the Huskies were up 30-14. Robert Griffin led an eight-play, 78-yard drive and a 2-point conversion that got the Bears within eight with 3:06 left. They tried an onside kick, but Dixon snatched it.
Griffin was 17 of 26 for 119 yards. He also ran 10 times for 20 yards and two touchdowns. Finley gained 121 yards on just eight carries. His touchdown was the longest for Baylor since 1997.
