Karim leads S. Illinois over SW Baptist 59-7

Sep 20, 2009 - 3:13 AM CARBONDALE, Ill.(AP) -- Deji Karim set a school record for most rushing yards per carry and Southern Illinois racked up the second-most yardage in school history in a 59-7 victory over Southwest Baptist on Saturday night.

Karim averaged 21.0 yards on 10 carries and scored three touchdowns. He rushed for a career-high 210 yards with two TDs and returned a kickoff for a score.

The Salukis (1-1) finished with 699 yards of total offense.

Chris Dieker completed 14 of 17 passes for 243 yards and two TDs. He also ran for a score. Joe Allaria caught seven passes for 144 yards and a touchdown.

Jeff Evans caught a touchdown pass and Lucien Walker, Anton Wilkins and Dieker scored on the ground. Kyle Dougherty added a field goal.

Southwest Baptist (0-4) was led by quarterback Steve Gachette, who passed for 210 yards, including an 18-yard touchdown toss to Charles Johnson.
