LSU looks to continue mastery of Mississippi State

Sep 26, 2006 - 10:21 PM Mississippi St (1-3) at No. 9 Lsu (3-1), 12:30 pm EDT

BATON ROUGE, Louisiana (Ticker) - Ninth-ranked Louisiana State aims for a seventh straight victory over Mississippi State when the teams return to Southeastern Conference competition Saturday.

The Tigers have dominated the Bulldogs in recent years, winning 13 of the past 14 meetings, including a 51-0 trouncing here in 2004 and a 37-7 win in Starkville last year. Louisiana State has not lost to Mississippi State in Baton Rouge since 1991.

LSU (3-1, 0-1 SEC West) rebounded from a disheartening 7-3 loss at Auburn with a 49-7 rout of intrastate foe Tulane last Saturday.

Early Doucet scored three times in the first half, twice on passes from JaMarcus Russell and once on a 17-yard run. Freshman Charles Scott rushed for 101 yards and a score in the romp.

Mississippi State (1-3, 0-2 West) opened its season by being shut out in back-to-back home games by SEC foes South Carolina and Auburn. After being edged by Tulane at home, 32-29, the Bulldogs went on the road last week and defeated UAB, 16-10, in overtime.

After Adron Chambers picked off a pass to begin the extra session, Omarr Conner ended the game by scoring on a 21-yard run.

Mississippi State likely will find it extremely difficult to get much done offensively against LSU, which leads the nation in scoring defense (5.0 points per game) and is ranked second in total defense (185.25 yards).
