Scales leads Harvard past Cornell 28-10

Oct 10, 2009 - 10:08 PM ITHACA, N.Y.(AP) -- Treavor Scales scored two touchdowns and Tim Murphy won his 100th game as Harvard's coach as the Crimson defeated Cornell 28-10 on Saturday.

Scales, a freshman, had 23 carries for 92 yards and scored on runs of 5 yards in the first quarter and 3 yards in the fourth.

Gino Gordon rushed for a season-high 137 yards on 22 carries with one touchdown for the Crimson (3-1, 2-0 Ivy League). Harvard outgained the Big Red 251-62 on the ground and limited Cornell to 182 total yards and nine first downs.

Ben Ganter was 15-for-31 for 120 yards and one touchdown for Cornell (2-2, 1-1). He also threw two interceptions, both by Brian Owusu.

The Crimson never trailed and led 14-10 going into the fourth quarter. Quarterback Collie Winters sealed the win with a 15-yard touchdown run.

Harvard has won eight of the past nine contests against Cornell.
