Furman holds on to beat Samford 26-24

Oct 17, 2009 - 10:47 PM GREENVILLE, S.C.(AP) -- Jordan Sorrells threw for three touchdowns and 205 yards, and Furman held off a late Samford surge to seal a 26-24 win on Saturday.

Sorrells, who finished 21-for-28, threw a 16-yard touchdown pass to R.J. Webb to put the Paladins (4-2, 3-1 Southern Conference) ahead 20-7 at halftime.

After Cameron Yaw's 21-yard field goal pulled the Bulldogs (3-4, 1-3) within 10, Sorrells connected with Chris Truss on an 8-yard score to push the lead to 26-10.

Samford got 1-yard touchdowns runs from both Alex Barnett and Chris Evans in the fourth quarter but it wasn't enough. Evans also scored from 2 yards out in the first quarter.

Sorrells threw his first touchdown in the opening quarter - an 8-yarder to Jerodis Williams - and Tersoo Uhaa scored on a 2-yard run to open the scoring for Furman.

Dustin Taliafero was 29-for-46 passing with 306 yards and an interception for Samford.
