Tennessee Tech holds off SE Missouri 28-16

Oct 24, 2009 - 11:43 PM COOKEVILLE, Tenn.(AP) -- Dontey Gay rushed for two touchdowns to lead Tennessee Tech in a 28-16 win over Southeast Missouri on Saturday.

Gay rushed for 125 yards on 20 carries for the Golden Eagles (4-3, 3-2 Ohio Valley Conference), who have won three of their last four games.

After Curtis Huge connected on field goals of 32 and 31 yards for the Redhawks (1-6, 0-5), Gay's 37-yard rushing TD put the Golden Eagles ahead 7-6 in the final minute of the opening quarter. Gay added a 4-yard score and Tremain Hudson had a 7-yarder to push Tech's lead to 21-9 at halftime.

Cedric Wilkerson scored from a yard out to give Tech a 28-6 advantage midway through the fourth. Redhawks' quarterback Matt Scheible connected with Cedric Cox on an 11-yard pass with 6 minutes to play for the final margin.

Scheible was 15-for-32 with 164 yards, a touchdown and three interceptions.
