Whitney, Ball help Villanova rout Towson 49-7
Nov 14, 2009 - 9:19 PM TOWSON, Md.(AP) -- Chris Whitney threw for two touchdowns and caught a scoring pass from Matt Szczur, leading Villanova to a 49-7 rout of Towson on Saturday.The Wildcats (9-1, 6-1 Colonial Athletic Association) scored touchdowns on their first five drives en route to their fourth straight victory. Aaron Ball ran for two touchdowns as Villanova rolled up 430 yards of total offense.
Towson (2-8, 1-6) lost its fifth straight game.
Ball scored on an 8-yard run on the Wildcats' first possession, and Whitney caught a 13-yard option pass from Szczur for a 14-0 lead. Whitney then threw TD passes to Mikey Reynolds and Norman White.
Whitney, who was 6 of 7 for 93 yards, left midway through the second quarter. Ball put Villanova up 35-0 on a 4-yard run and backup quarterback Antwon Young added an 82-yard TD scamper for a 42-0 third-quarter lead.
Tremayne Dameron rushed for Towson's touchdown.
