Montana State tops Sacramento State, 27-17

Nov 14, 2009 - 10:53 PM BOZEMAN, Mont.(AP) -- Everett Gilbert scored twice on touchdown passes from Cody Kempt as Montana State defeated Sacramento State 27-17 on Saturday.

Gilbert, a freshman, returned kicks, ran from the wildcat formation and caught passes for the Bobcats (7-3, 5-2 Big Sky). He returned the second-half kickoff 39 yards, and two plays later took a short pass from Kempt and went 46 yards to the end zone, giving Montana State a 21-14 lead.

Gilbert had seven catches for 90 yards, rushed three times for 31 and had 84 return yards. Kempt was 20 of 29 for 222 yards and ran for 47 more.

Sacramento State (4-6, 4-4) was held to 35 yards on the ground. McLeod Bethel-Thompson threw for 269 yards and a touchdown but was intercepted three times. The Hornets tied the game 1 second before halftime on an option pass from Jake Croxdale to Brian Heath.
