North Dakota holds off central Arkansas 17-16

Nov 28, 2009 - 10:42 PM CONWAY, Ark.(AP) -- North Dakota blocked a field-goal attempt with 17 seconds remaining to hold off Central Arkansas for a 17-16 victory on Saturday.

Defensive lineman Broc Bellmore disrupted a 43-yard attempt by Eddie Carmona, culminating a rally by the Fighting Sioux (6-5), who trailed 16-7 in the third quarter.

North Dakota got within two points on a 22-yard touchdown pass from Jake Landry to Noah Dombrovski in the third quarter, then took the lead on a 34-yard field goal by Brandon Hellevang with 9:33 remaining.

Landry was 16-of-28 for 200 yards and two TDs.

Brent Grimes rushed for 137 yards and a touchdown on 15 carries for Central Arkansas (5-7).

The game was dubbed "The Transition Bowl." The schools are ineligible for the Football Championship Subdivision playoffs that began on Saturday because they are in transition from Division II to Division I.
