Wake Forest improves to 5-0 for first time since 1987

Sep 30, 2006 - 10:57 PM WINSTON-SALEM, North Carolina (Ticker) -- Wake Forest does not appear to be slowing down anytime soon.

Kevin Harris rushed for two touchdowns and Nate Morton caught a 59-yard TD pass as the Demon Deacons remained perfect with a 34-14 rout of Division I-AA Liberty.

Wake Forest improved to 5-0 for the first time since 1987 and recorded a five-game winning streak of any kind for the first time since 1992.

Harris carried eight times for 77 yards, including a 27-yard scoring scamper midway through the first quarter and a seven-yard TD run early in the second that gave Wake Forest a 17-0 lead.

Morton caught his touchdown pass from Riley Skinner with 68 seconds left in the first half to send the Demon Deacons into intermission with a 27-7 cushion.

Skinner completed 13-of-21 passes for 218 yards without a turnover. Morton caught six balls for 127 yards as Wake Forest outgained Liberty, 438-301.

Brock Smith was 15-of-25 for 211 yards for the Flames (3-2). He threw a pair of touchdown passes to Darnell Edwards, including a six-yard strike with 2:10 remaining to cap the scoring.
