NC State looks to continue recent success vs. Florida State

Oct 3, 2006 - 6:48 PM No. 17 Florida St (3-1) at NC State (2-2), 7:30 pm EDT

RALEIGH, North Carolina (Ticker) - Florida State remembers what happened the last time it faced North Carolina State on a Thursday.

The 17th-ranked Seminoles try to avenge a tough loss to the Wolfpack when they visit Carter-Finley Stadium on Thursday night for an Atlantic Coast Conference showdown.

Last year, North Carolina State stunned Florida State in Tallahassee, 20-15, as Andre Brown ran for 179 yards and a touchdown. The Wolfpack limited the Seminoles to just 43 yards on the ground and forced three turnovers as they won for the third time in the series' last five meetings.

The Wolfpack are coached by former Seminoles defensive assistant Chuck Amato.

"We are playing against North Carolina State," Seminoles coach Bobby Bowden said. "It really doesn't make a difference who is on the other side." Despite the Wolfpack's recent success in the rivalry, the Seminoles lead the series, 18-8, including 8-4 in Raleigh.

Florida State (3-1, 1-1 ACC Atlantic) is coming off a bye week. In the Seminoles' last contest, they rebounded from a "Bowden Bowl" loss to Clemson with a 55-7 thumping of Rice.

Antone Smith rushed for 137 yards and two touchdowns on just 12 carries and Lorenzo Booker ran for 115 yards and a score on 13 carries for the Seminoles, who entered the game ranked 118th out of 119 Division I-A teams on the ground.

Also coming off a bye, NC State (2-2, 1-0 Atlantic) has not played since a 17-15 triumph over then-No. 20 Boston College on September 23, which snapped a two-game skid.

Making his first start, Daniel Evans threw a go-ahead 34-yard touchdown to John Dunlap with eight seconds left for the Wolfpack.
