Iowa, Purdue look to bounce back vs. each other

Oct 3, 2006 - 8:19 PM Purdue (4-1) at No. 19 Iowa (4-1), 12:00 pm EDT

IOWA CITY, Iowa (Ticker) - No. 19 Iowa and Purdue both are looking to respond after absorbing their first defeats of the season when they meet Saturday in a Big Ten Conference contest at Kinnick Stadium.

The Hawkeyes (4-1, 1-1 Big Ten) were dominated by top-ranked Ohio State here last Saturday night, 38-17.

Drew Tate had a miserable game for Iowa, throwing three interceptions, including two in the fourth quarter. He completed only 19 of his 41 pass attempts.

Purdue (4-1, 1-0), meanwhile, came up short at No. 12 Notre Dame, 35-21, despite sensational performances by Curtis Painter and Selwyn Lymon. Painter threw for 398 yards and a pair of touchdowns to Lymon, who gained 238 yards - the most ever by a Fighting Irish opponent - on eight catches.

The Boilermakers gained 490 yards but gave up 454 and held the ball for less than 22 minutes in the defeat.

Iowa has won the past two and three of the last four meetings with Purdue.

The Hawkeyes have taken the past four matchups here since a loss in 1992.
