Cal hosts Oregon in battle of high-powered offenses

Oct 3, 2006 - 11:51 PM No. 11 Oregon (4-0) at No. 16 California (4-1), 8:00 pm EDT

BERKELEY, California (Ticker) - Offensive fireworks likely will be on display Saturday when 11th-ranked Oregon visits No. 16 California in a key Pac-10 Conference clash.

The top two offenses in the Pac-10, Oregon ranks fourth nationally with an average of 497 yards per contest while California is ninth at 452.2 yards. The Ducks also are sixth nationally in scoring average (40.25 points), while the Golden Bears are eighth (38.4).

Oregon (4-0, 2-0 Pac-10) dominated Arizona State in Tempe last Saturday, 48-13.

Dennis Dixon threw three touchdown passes, two to Jaison Williams, for the Ducks, who limited the Sun Devils to 175 total yards in their first contest since a controversial 34-33 win over Oklahoma on September 16.

Cal (4-1, 2-0) has won four straight games since a season-opening loss at Tennessee, including a 41-13 triumph at Oregon State last weekend.

Nate Longshore tossed four touchdowns for the third time in four games and Marshawn Lynch had two TD catches and ran for another score for the Bears, who scored the game's first 31 points.

Oregon has won eight of the last nine meetings, including a 27-20 overtime triumph in Eugene last year. Cal's one triumph in that span was a 28-27 win here two years ago.

Cal coach Jeff Tedford served as Oregon coach Mike Bellotti's offensive coordinator from 1998-2001.
