Arkansas State defeats Louisiana-Monroe 34-20

Sep 19, 2010 - 3:47 AM JONESBORO, Ark.(AP) -- Ryan Aplin ran for a touchdown and passed for another to lead Arkansas State to a 34-20 victory over Louisiana-Monroe on Saturday night.

Aplin scored on a 4-yard run and hit Dewayne Frampton on 34-yard touchdown pass as the Red Wolves (1-2, 1-1 Sun Belt) built a 21-0 first-half lead. He completed 20 of 32 passes for 240 yards and finished with a team-high 75 yards rushing.

Arkansas State scored its other touchdown on a 12-year run by Derek Lawson.

Louisiana-Monroe (0-2, 0-1) managed to get as close as 21-14 early in the third quarter, but Arkansas State answered with a 1-yard run by Phillip Butterfield and a 37-yard field goal from Bobby Zalud.

Kolton Browning passed for two touchdowns for the Warhawks, and reserve quarterback Zach Rhodes ran for a 4-yard TD.
