Central Connecticut State defeats Duquesne 31-29

Oct 9, 2010 - 7:38 PM NEW BRITTAIN, Conn. (AP) -- Central Connecticut State survived a tying two-point conversion attempt to hold on for a 31-29 win over Duquesne on Saturday.

After Duquesne scored on a 5-yard pass from Sean Patterson to Dave Williams with no time left, the Dukes then went for the tie. Akeem Moore caught the conversion pass, but was ruled ineligible after he went out of bounds and was the first player to touch the ball.

The Blue Devils, who were led by Everette Benjamin's 140 yards on 31 carries, overcame a big day by Larry McCoy.

McCoy finished with 246 yards on 24 carries for the Dukes (3-3, 1-2 Northeast Conference), who couldn't match up with Central Connecticut State's possession controlling offense.

The Blue Devils (4-2, 3-0) ran 25 plays before Duquesne (3-3, 1-2) recorded a first down and gained 106 yards in the first quarter, compared to 27 for the Dukes, for a 10-0 lead.
