South Carolina State defeats Norfolk State 34-14

Oct 9, 2010 - 9:49 PM ORANGEBURG, S.C. (AP) -- Josh McFadden scored on a 47-yard punt return and South Carolina State's defense limited Norfolk State in a 34-14 win on Saturday.

The Bulldogs (4-1, 2-0 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) fell behind 7-0 on a 39-yard interception return by Norfolk State's Ricardo Volcin 49 seconds into the game.

However, South Carolina State answered on McFadden's touchdown less than four minutes later, followed by a 9-yard scoring pass from Malcolm Long to Chris Massey late in the first quarter.

The Spartans (2-3, 1-2) pulled within four on a 45-yard field goal by Ryan Estep, but the Bulldogs pulled away with 13 unanswered points.

South Carolina State held Norfolk State to 96 yards of total offense, including 41 yards rushing.

Chris Massey had 82 yards on 23 carries for the Bulldogs, who finished with 297 yards of total offense in their fourth-straight win.
