Oct 10, 2010 - 2:47 AM BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) -- Jeremia McGinty threw for two touchdowns and Southern University defeated Mississippi Valley State 38-20 on Saturday night.

McGinty had 224 yards on 14-for-24 passing, including a 62-yard touchdown throw to LaQuinton Evans to give the Jaguars (2-3, 1-2 Southwestern Athletic Conference) a 7-0 lead early in the first quarter.

After holding the Delta Devils (0-6, 0-5) to a three-and-out, Southern attempted a 45-yard field goal which was blocked and returned 65-yards by Markkus Davis to tie the score 7-7.

The Jaguars, however, scored the next 17 points to break it open.

Evans finished with 82 yards on four catches, and Southern got additional production from its backup quarterback. Joseph Day had 106 yards and a touchdown on 5-for-7 passing. His score came on a 73-yard pass to Rashaun Allen for a 31-20 lead with 8:40 remaining in the game.
