Rodgers has 4 TDs as Oregon State tops Cal 35-7
Oct 30, 2010 - 11:05 PM By ANNE M. PETERSON AP Sports WriterCORVALLIS, Ore. (AP) -- Jacquizz Rodgers threw for a touchdown before running for three more and Oregon State defeated California 35-7 on Saturday.
Rodgers rushed for 119 yards for the Beavers (4-3, 3-1 Pac-10), who led 28-0 at the half.
California (4-4, 2-3) was stung in the first quarter when quarterback Kevin Riley injured his left knee and had to be helped off the field. The nature of his injury was not immediately released.
Riley did not return and was replaced by backup Brock Mansion.
Cal has lost six straight games on the road, a streak dating back to last season. The Golden Bears have lost four straight to the Beavers.
Rodgers, who is known as Quizz, threw an 11-yard touchdown pass out of the wildcat formation to Colby Prince on the Beavers' first series.
He added a pair of short scoring dashes before Ryan Katz connected with Joel Halahuni on a 17-yard touchdown pass before the break.
Quizz had a 10-yard TD run early in the second half. He also had three catches for 11 yards, giving him 125 catches for his career - most ever by a Beavers' running back.
Katz completed 20 of 27 passes for 184 yards before Oregon State pulled most of its offensive starters midway through the fourth quarter.
Mansion completed 14 of 24 passes for 138 yards, including a 45-yard scoring pass to Anthony Miller with 20 seconds left in the game.
Riley emerged in the second half in sweats and on crutches. He has passed for 1,409 yards this season with 13 touchdowns and six interceptions.
Just like his team, Riley has fared better at Memorial Stadium, where he has 10 TD passes and no interceptions. The Golden Bears are 4-0 in Strawberry Canyon this season.
Cal was coming off a 50-17 victory at home against Arizona State.
The Beavers had an open date last weekend after a 35-34 double-overtime loss at Washington on Oct. 16. Oregon State attempted a 2-point conversion that failed when Katz's pass slipped from Halahuni's hands.
Last year, Cal held Quizz to 67 yards rushing, but that included a 24-yard touchdown dash. The Beavers upset the Golden Bears 31-14 at Memorial Stadium.
Oregon State was without tight end Brady Camp, who didn't play because of a back injury.
James Rodgers, Quizz's older brother, sustained a season-ending knee injury in the second quarter of Oregon State's 29-27 victory over Arizona on Oct. 9. He had successful surgery to repair torn ligaments earlier this week.
