Jones throws five TDs as Oklahoma pounds Texas Tech
Nov 14, 2010 - 12:48 AM Norman, OK (Sports Network) - Landry Jones threw for 316 yards and five touchdowns on 23-of-31 passing as 19th-ranked Oklahoma trounced Big 12 rival Texas Tech, 45-7, during its home finale at Memorial Stadium.Ryan Broyles had 119 yards and three touchdowns on eight catches for a passing attack that helped the Sooners (8-2, 4-2 Big 12) maintain the nation's longest home win streak at 36 games and bounce back from a 33-19 loss at Texas A&M last Saturday.
Taylor Potts completed 18-of-36 passes for 136 yards and two interceptions for Texas Tech (5-5, 3-5) in the loss, while Baron Batch had 91 yards on 11 carries. The Red Raiders were coming off an upset win over then 14th-ranked Missouri last Saturday, 24-17.
Jones was perfect, 4-of-4 for 56 yards, on the game's opening drive that was capped off by a touchdown pass to DeMarco Murray from 12 yards out.
Texas Tech answered back with a seven play, 67-yard drive that ended with a three-yard pass from wide receiver Detron Lewis to Darrin Moore with 10:03 left in the opening quarter. It was Lewis' first career touchdown pass.
The Sooners regained the lead, 10-7, after the offense stalled in the red zone and Jimmy Stevens had to kick a 34-yard field goal.
Jones hooked up with speedy Kenny Stills for a long 59-yard touchdown heave with 5:01 left in the opening act. During Oklahoma's next drive, the ground game joined the scoring action when Roy Finch scored on a 29-yard slash up the middle to take a decisive lead, 24-7. He ended the game with 67 yards on 12 carries.
The Sooners opened the second quarter scoring on a Jones' 29-yard touchdown pass to Broyles. Jones threw for 76 yards on four completions during the drive.
He found Broyles again to finish off Oklahoma's first-half scoring rout on a 18-yard TD pass with 27 seconds left in the opening half. The Sooners took a 38-7 lead into the break.
The offenses struggled to score during the second half where they were held scoreless through the first six minutes. But the Jones-Broyles connection fired up again when they had an eight-yard pass-and-catch with 5:53 left in the third to make it a 45-7 score.
Neither teams were able to find the endzone during the remainder of the game.
