LSU routs Louisiana-Monroe
Nov 14, 2010 - 5:47 AM Baton Rouge, LA (Sports Network) - Stevan Ridley ran for 67 yards and two touchdowns and LSU got two defensive scores, as the fifth-ranked Tigers took a 51-0 win over the University of Louisiana-Monroe.Michael Ford and Spencer Ware also had a running touchdown apiece for LSU (9-1), which was taking a break from SEC play and hosts Ole Miss next week. Ron Brooks had an interception return for a score, while Lavar Edwards returned a fumble for a touchdown.
Josh Jasper kicked three field goals in the rout, which extended LSU's winning streak in non-conference games to 33 -- the longest in the nation.
"I like the fact that our team played four quarters and executed the things we asked them to do," said LSU head coach Les Miles. "I don't think we were perfect...but I felt like we did the things we came to do, and that was to be a dominant team and to do so for four quarters."
The Tigers ran 61 plays, only 22 of which were passes. Jarrett Lee and Jordan Jefferson combined to go 8-of-22 for 95 yards, with no interceptions.
Kolton Browning completed 8-of-17 throws for 61 yards with two interceptions for the Warhawks (4-6), who have dropped two in a row.
LSU had to punt on its first possession, but got on the board during the ensuing ULM possession. Brooks picked off Browning at the 32 and ran it back to the end zone with 7:05 left in the quarter.
Jasper kicked field goals of 53 and 45 yards before the quarter was through for a 13-0 lead.
Patrick Peterson intercepted Browning on the final play of the opening period, returning it 85 yards to the ULM 12. The Tigers needed five plays to get across the goal line, doing so on Ridley's one-yard rush about 2 1/2 minutes into the second quarter.
"It's so fun going out there each and every snap knowing we're going to make a play," said Peterson. "It's just a matter of time."
Jasper's 29-yarder with 3:41 left made it a 23-0 game at the break, and LSU continued to control the game in the second half.
Ridley ran for a seven-yard score about five minutes in, and running back Centarius Donald took over under center for Browning. But Donald fumbled on a rushing attempt, and Edwards recovered, turning it into a 29-yard TD for a 37-0 game.
Ware had a five-yard touchdown run late in the third, and Ford's 17-yard dash with 8:30 left in the fourth completed the scoring.
