No. 9 Texas A&M pounds Idaho

Sep 18, 2011 - 6:49 AM College Station, TX (Sports Network) - Ryan Tannehill threw for 337 yards and two touchdowns, as No. 9 Texas A&M handled Idaho, 37-7.

Tannehill completed 26-of-39 passes and had an interception, while Cyrus Gray ran for 101 yards and two scores and caught five passes for 58 yards and a touchdown.

"My teammates are great around me," said Tannehill. "When you have that type of talent around you it takes a lot of pressure off."

The Aggies (2-0) were sharp following an open week. They play Oklahoma State next Saturday.

Brian Reader completed 17-of-29 passes for 131 yards and Troy Vital ran for a late score for the Vandals (1-2), who play Fresno State next Saturday.

Tannehill was intercepted by Andre Ferguson on the Aggies' first possession, but responded on the team's ensuing drive. He needed just three passes -- of 12, 27 and 26-yards -- to give Texas A&M a 7-0 lead. The touchdown strike was reeled in by Ryan Swope.

Randy Bullock's 25-yard field goal gave the Aggies a 10-0 lead early in the second quarter and, on the team's next possession, Gray capped a 52-yard drive with a 17-yard touchdown run.

With the Vandals' offense in irons, Bullock tacked on a 42-yard field goal and Gray caught a three-yard pass from Tannehill for a 27-0 Texas A&M advantage at the half.

The trend carried over into the third quarter, as the Aggies sandwiched a Bullock 46-yarder and a Gray one-yard touchdown plunge around an Idaho punt.

Bullock missed a field goal midway through the fourth quarter and the Vandals finally got on the board on their next possession.

Reader oversaw the 73-yard drive, completing 5-of-6 passes and Vital reached the end zone with a one-yard run to avoid the shutout.

"Our defense stepped up and played a great game," said Reader. "We just didn't show up and do what we needed to do."

Gray notched his ninth straight 100-yard rushing game...Tannehill complied his second career 300-yard passing game...The schools met for the first time on the gridiron.
