Boise State rolls to win in Fresno

Oct 8, 2011 - 7:45 AM Fresno, CA (Sports Network) - Kellen Moore threw three touchdown passes as No. 5 Boise State rolled to a 57-7 win over Fresno State in a non-conference battle.

Moore went 23-for-31 with 254 yards and threw two of his touchdown passes to Geraldo Boldewijn for the Broncos (5-0), who have won all their games this season by at least 14 points. D.J. Harper ran two scores in.

Derek Carr was 17-for-30 with 126 yards and an interception for the Bulldogs (2-4), who have dropped their past two contests.

"I thought our defense played very well and it was just one of those nights where we wanted to do so much as a team and as a program, for our community, and for our fans, and we fell flat on our face," said Fresno State head coach Pat Hill. "This was probably the hardest game I have gone through since I've been here on that standpoint."

Boise State covered 76 yards in just seven plays on its first drive of the game. Moore capped it with a four-yard score to Matt Miller with 10:29 left.

The Broncos got a 32-yard field goal from Dan Goodale later in the first, and on the first play after they recovered a Fresno State fumble, Mitch Burroughs took the ball into the end zone on a 25-yard score. Boise State held a 16-0 lead after Goodale missed the extra point.

Following a Bulldogs punt, the Broncos kept pouring it on as Moore hit Boldewijn for an 18-yard score to finish a nine-play, 78-yard drive.

A blocked punt on Fresno State's next touch led to Boise State adding seven points on a six-yard score from Harper. Boldewijn caught a four-yard score later in the second to give the team a 37-0 lead at the break.

"We always want to start fast. We don't do anything special," said Boise State head coach Chris Petersen. "We try to figure out how to play the second half. But they seem to come out ready to go."

A Doug Martin one-yard rushing score gave Boise State six more points after Goodale's extra point was blocked, and Harper added a three-yard touchdown later in the frame for a 50-0 lead.

Devon Wylie's 79-yard punt return for a touchdown early in the fourth quarter accounted for the lone score for Fresno State.

Grant Hedrick's 23-yard score with 17 seconds left in the game accounted for the final score.
