Ganaway helps Baylor roll over Iowa State

Oct 9, 2011 - 6:22 AM Waco, TX (Sports Network) - Terrance Ganaway ran for a career-high 200 yards and three scores on 23 carries as the 25th-ranked Baylor Bears pulled away from the Iowa State Cyclones in the second half to win it 49-26.

Robert Griffin III threw for 212 yards and a touchdown on 22-of-30 passing for Baylor (4-1, 1-1 Big 12), while gaining 107 yards on the ground on 24 rushes with a score.

"They came out and their main goal was to come out and not let us get the big play," Griffin said. "A lot of times I ended up running, but you know me, I'm going to be protective of the ball. But if we weren't able to run the ball tonight we wouldn't have won the game. Terrance Ganaway was a big part of that."

All in all, the Bears rushed for a season-high 391 yards, the most since September 12, 2008 against Washington State.

Kendall Wright caught eight balls for 69 yards and a score for the Bears, who bounced back after a 36-35 loss to Kansas State last Saturday.

Steve Jantz was 17-of-35 for 244 yards and three touchdowns along with an interception for Iowa State (3-2, 0-2).

Darius Reynolds had a huge game, accounting for 178 yards receiving and two touchdowns on seven receptions.

James White rushed for 148 yards and a score on 15 carries for the Cyclones, who have lost two straight after winning their first three.

"They're a very fast team. They're a very good football team," Iowa State head coach Paul Rhoads said. "There's a reason that young man (Robert Griffin III) is a Heisman Trophy frontrunner. There's a reason they're 4-1 and a top 25 football team. They've got great skill and they play very good football."

Iowa State jumped out to a quick 7-0 lead when Jantz found Reynolds for the third time on the opening drive for a 10-yard score. Reynolds compiled 76 yards on the 82-yard march.

The Cyclones defense forced a pair of fumbles on back-to-back Baylor possessions, but were unable to turn the turnovers into points.

Baylor moved the ball to the Iowa State 14-yard line before Ganaway put the ball on the turf as the Cyclones recovered the fumble at the 11-yard line. The Bears marched to the Cyclones' 31-yard line on their next possession before Jarred Salubi was stripped. But once again, the Cyclones were unable to take advantage of the mistake.

The Bears finally got on the board early on in the second quarter when Griffin got in from a yard out, but the Cyclones quickly responded with a touchdown drive of their own when Jantz found Reid Branderhorst for a one-yard score to give the Cyclones a 14-7 advantage.

It appeared that Baylor fumbled for a third time in Iowa State territory, but after further review it was ruled that Griffin's arm was moving forward on his attempted pass. Griffin found Wright for a 15-yard touchdown on the very next play to tie the game midway through the second quarter.

After an Iowa State three-and-out, the Baylor offense was at it again. Glasco Martin concluded a seven-play, 58-yard drive, with a one-yard touchdown plunge.

Ganaway scored from three yards out in the third quarter to give Baylor a two- touchdown lead. A 24-yard strike from Griffin to Lanear Sampson highlighted the seven-play, 50-yard drive.

Jantz hooked up with Reynolds for a 56-yard completion down the left sideline to set up the Cyclones for a potential score. But just two plays later, Jantz fumbled and Tevin Elliot returned the turnover 86 yards for the touchdown to make it 35-14.

A 76-yard touchdown scamper by White on Iowa State's ensuing drive kept the Cyclones in the game. The extra point was missed.

Ganaway scored his second touchdown, a two-yard plunge, early on in the fourth quarter to give Baylor a 42-20 lead.

Reynolds hauled in his second touchdown of the game, this one from 28 yards, as Jantz floated the pass off his back foot trying to elude the Bears pressure. The extra point was again missed.

Ganaway rushed for a 22-yard score late in the fourth quarter to conclude the scoring.
