Sun Devils scorch Buffaloes
Oct 30, 2011 - 3:18 AM Tempe, AZ (Sports Network) - Cameron Marshall ran for 114 yards and three scores as the Arizona State Sun Devils routed the Colorado Buffaloes, 48-14."Finally you see Cameron Marshall pretty healthy and it is a different game when he is healthy for us offensively because the things that he can do, running the football. They were giving us the run, they were doing a lot of different things to stop some of the passing things we were doing," Sun Devils head coach Dennis Erickson said.
Brock Osweiler completed 18-of-28 passes for 307 yards and two scores for the Sun Devils (6-2, 4-1 Pac 12), who bounced back after a 41-27 loss to Oregon on October 15.
Gerrell Robinson caught four balls for 89 yards, while Jamal Miles and Kevin Ozier added touchdown receptions.
Tyler Hansen was 22-of-35 for 286 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions for Colorado (1-8, 0-5), which lost its sixth straight game. The Buffaloes have been outscored 193-47 in their last four games.
"I can tell by how they play, how they act on the sidelines, how they act after a loss like this, how they've acted after previous losses. Sometimes you can't do anything about it because they are the only people we have, which is the sad thing. But I guarantee you, it's not going to be like this in the future," Colorado head coach Jon Embree said.
Toney Clemons had 97 yards and a touchdown on eight receptions.
Osweiler concluded the opening five-play, 66-yard march when he found Miles for a 25-yard score. Marshall had a 27-yard run on the possession.
After a Colorado three-and-out, Marshall made it 14-0 midway through the opening quarter as he scampered in from 19 yards out. Robinson had a 23-yard grab, and A.J. Pickens hauled in a 22-yard pass to highlight the six-play, 82- yard drive.
Later on in the first quarter, Osweiler found Ozier for a 33-yard TD strike. He completed three passes for 59 yards on the possession. Alex Garoutte added a 38-yard field goal to make it 24-0 midway through the second quarter.
Colorado finally got on the board when Josh Moten recovered an Osweiler fumble for a 16 yard scoop-and-score with 1:53 to go in the half.
But Osweiler led the Sun Devils 62 yards down the field in 41 seconds to give Arizona State a 31-7 halftime advantage. Aaron Pflugrad came down with a 51- yard reception down to the Colorado 11, and Marshall scored from 11 yards out two plays later.
Keelan Johnson intercepted Hansen at the 46-yard line on Colorado's opening possession of the second half. Arizona State moved the ball 25 yards in seven plays before Garoutte booted his second field goal of the game, this time from 46 yards out.
Colorado took its ensuing possession 59 yards down to the Sun Devils' one-yard line, but Tony Jones was unable to get into the end zone on 4th-and-goal.
Arizona State took over at the Colorado 13 after Keenan Canty muffed a punt. Marshall rushed for his third touchdown of the game on a four-yard TD plunge to make it 41-7 late in the third quarter.
Hansen found Clemons for a 21-yard score early in the fourth quarter to conclude a six-play, 80-yard drive, and James Morrison scored from eight yards out to conclude the scoring.
