No. 1 LSU runs past Ole Miss
Nov 20, 2011 - 4:10 AM Oxford, MS (Sports Network) - Four different Tigers ran for touchdowns as top-ranked LSU took a dominating, 52-3, victory over Ole Miss.Spencer Ware, Michael Ford, Kenny Hilliard and James Stampley all reached the end zone, and the defense forced three turnovers for the Tigers (11-0, 7-0 SEC), who extended the nation's longest winning streak to 12 games.
Jordan Jefferson completed 7-of-7 passes for 88 yards and a score, while adding 26 yards on six carries to give LSU its first 11-0 record since 1958.
"Our football team came here today to get another conference victory, and they came here and played well," LSU head coach Les Miles said. "Our defense played extremely sharp to start."
Zach Stoudt went 3-for-8 through the air for 17 yards with an interception and a lost fumble for Ole Miss (2-9, 0-7) before getting replaced by Barry Brunetti late in the first quarter.
Brunetti completed 5-of-10 passes for 30 yards and carried the ball 15 times for 74 yards in Houston Nutt's final home game as head coach of the Rebels.
Nutt will step down at the end of the season.
Ole Miss took the ball first, but Stoudt floated a ball over the middle on the third play of the game that was intercepted by Ron Brooks, who took it 46 yards down the right sideline for a touchdown.
Hilliard capped a nine-play drive with a one-yard touchdown plunge on the Tigers' first offensive possession, and a Stoudt fumble on the ensuing drive led to a 22-yard TD grab by Russell Shepard to make it a 21-0 game after the first quarter.
Ole Miss started a drive early in the second quarter at its own 14 after an LSU punt, and Brunetti was sacked for a 12-yard loss on first down. On the next play, Brunetti fumbled in the end zone on a botched handoff and LSU's Kevin Minter recovered it for a score.
"You can't start a game the way we started, especially against a team like them," Nutt said. "They are the number one team in the nation, you can't give them gifts."
LSU kept piling on in the first half as Ware finished off an 11-play, 95-yard march with a 35-yard TD run up the middle.
Bryson Rose's 39-yard field goal within the final minute of the second made it a 35-3 game at the break.
The rout continued in the second half as the Tigers took the opening possession 80 yards down the field for a touchdown. Alfred Blue's 57-yard run down the right sideline preceded Ford's 19-yard run into the end zone.
Stampley's one-yard plunge into the end zone on 4th-and-goal with 59 seconds left in the third and Drew Alleman's 29-yard field goal in the fourth finalized the scoring.
LSU drove down to the Ole Miss one-yard line with just over five minutes to go in the game, but knelt the ball four times to give the ball to the Rebels.
