Kansas State fends of Texas

Nov 20, 2011 - 7:59 AM Austin, TX (Sports Network) - Collin Klein threw a touchdown pass and ran for a score, as No. 16 Kansas State escaped with a 17-13 win over Texas.

Klein completed 9-of-17 passes for 83 yards, but the dual-threat signal caller totaled just four rushing yards on 26 carries.

John Hubert ran for 32 yards for the Wildcats (9-2, 6-2 Big 12), who were coming off a 53-50 four-overtime victory over Texas A&M.

David Ash threw a pair of interceptions for the Longhorns (6-4, 3-4) before being replaced by Case McCoy in the third quarter.

McCoy provided a spark, throwing for 80 yards and a touchdown, but couldn't prevent the Longhorns' second straight loss.

"I thought [McCoy] did a good job. He jump started us and got us going," Texas head coach Mack Brown said.

Ash's second interception of the game came early in the third quarter and led to Klein's three-yard rushing touchdown, as the Wildcats took a 17-3 lead.

McCoy began the next drive for the Longhorns and his third pass resulted in a 36-yard touchdown strike to Blaine Irby.

Midway through the fourth, Cody Johnson reeled off a 55-yard run on 3rd-and-1, moving the Longhorns to the Kansas State 22-yard line.

The drive stalled at the KSU nine, resulting in Justin Tucker's 26-yard field goal for a 17-13 game.

The Texas defense continued to hold, as Jackson Jeffcoat's third-down sack of Klein with 2:49 left forced a punt.

Quandre Diggs returned that punt 24 yards to midfield, but the Longhorns failed to move the ball, as McCoy was sacked by Adam Davis on 4th-and-10.

Texas received the ball back with 1:16 left and moved to midfield before time expired on the comeback attempt.

"It wasn't just the final stand, our defense had to stand up all day, because our offense didn't," Kansas State head coach Bill Snyder said.

Early, Anthony Cantele gave the Wildcats a 3-0 lead with a 20-yard, first- quarter field goal, but Tucker responded with a 48-yarder in the second.

Kansas State took a 10-3 on Chris Harper's 16-yard touchdown grab seconds before halftime.

The score was aided by a kick catching interference penalty, which allowed the Wildcats to start the drive near midfield.
