Final
UCLA without QB Olson at Oregon
Oct 10, 2006 - 11:18 PM UCLA (4-1) at No. 18 Oregon (4-1), 3:30 pm EDTEUGENE, Oregon (Ticker) - UCLA's hopes of upsetting No. 18 Oregon on the road may come down to the play of its erstwhile backup quarterback.
Patrick Cowan will start for the Bruins on Saturday when they visit the Ducks in the Pac-10 Conference contest.
Ben Olson, who beat out Cowan for the starting job over the summer, sprained his left knee early in last week's 27-7 home win over Arizona and is expected to be out four to six weeks.
Cowan played well off the bench, completing 20-of-29 passes for 201 yards and two touchdowns for the Bruins (4-1, 2-1 Pac-10) who are tied with the Ducks (4-1, 2-1), Washington and Washington State for third place in the conference.
Oregon fell from the ranks of the unbeaten after getting blown out at California last weekend, 45-24.
Dennis Dixon was intercepted three times for the Ducks, who fell behind, 28-3, in the second quarter and did not climb back into the contest.
Oregon had won four consecutive meetings before absorbing a 34-26 setback here two years ago. The teams did not meet in 2005.
No one has shouted yet.
