Franchione gets new five-year deal at Texas State
May 3, 2013 - 4:38 AM San Marcos, TX (Sports Network) - Dennis Franchione signed a new five-year contract to remain the head football coach at Texas State.Franchione will earn $350,000 for the upcoming season and will see his salary rise to $400,000 for the final four years of the deal.
Texas State went 4-8 last season in Franchione's second year at the helm. The Bobcats will play in the Sun Belt Conference next fall.
"Coach Franchione has been a strong leader for our program, increased visibility, generated a high level of enthusiasm and instilled a strong work ethic for student-athletes on and off the field," said Texas State president Denise M. Trauth. "There has been great buzz about being elevated to the top level of college football, and we expect more good things as our program grows."
Franchione led Texas State to a 13-9 record in 1990-91. After his short stint with the Bobcats, he went on to coach New Mexico, TCU, Alabama and Texas A&M, resigning from the latter following the 2007 season. That year, reports revealed Franchione was sending out e-mails with inside information on the football team to boosters, who paid $1,200 to receive them.
In 27 years as a collegiate head coach, Franchione has compiled a 197-115-2 record.
