Winston, No. 8 FSU rout Bethune-Cookman

Sep 22, 2013 - 4:21 AM Tallahassee, FL (Sports Network) - Jameis Winston had two touchdown passes and Karlos Williams ran in for two scores as eighth-ranked Florida State took a 54-6 win over Bethune-Cookman on Saturday.

Winston went 10-of-19 for 148 yards, while Williams totaled 83 yards on nine carries and Devonta Freeman had a touchdown and 112 yards on 10 carries for the Seminoles (3-0), who have won their first three games by a combined 131 points.

"I thought we went in and did the things we had to do in order to win the game," said Florida State head coach Jumbo Fisher. "Still, a lot of room for improvement in my opinion. I think we have to clean some things up."

Jackie Wilson and Quentin Williams combined to go just 8-of-17 for 60 yards and an interception for the Wildcats (3-1), who were coming off a 21-point win over FIU.

"We played a good football team in Florida State tonight," said Bethune- Cookman head coach Brian Jenkins. "I thought we hung in there with them toe to toe for a while. We made some mistakes that they capitalized on and that's what good teams do."

It was a 7-0 lead for Florida State around 6 1/2 minutes in as Telvin Smith picked off a Williams pass and took it 68 yards the other way for a score.

The Seminoles received a 45-yard field goal from Roberto Aguayo with 2 1/2 minutes left in the first quarter for a 10-0 advantage.

Following a safety when Bethune-Cookman was whistled for a holding call in the end zone, Winston and Kelvin Benjamin got together on an 11-yard score for a 19-0 advantage.

It was 26-0 on Florida State's next touch as James Wilder Jr. took the ball in from two yards out, and late in the half Freeman punched the ball in from a yard out to give the team a 33-0 lead at the break.

Florida State needed less than 90 seconds to score on the opening possession of the second half as Winston hit Rashad Greene on a 19-yard score.

The Wildcats finally got on the board on their ensuing touch as Wilson ran the ball in from seven yards out, the extra point was no good, though.

Karlos Williams touchdown runs of three and one yard pushed Florida State's advantage to 54-6 later in the third quarter.
