Fresno State rolls over Idaho

Oct 6, 2013 - 3:07 AM Moscow, ID (SportsNetwork.com) - Derek Carr completed 37-of-48 passes for 419 yards and five touchdowns in the 23rd-ranked Fresno State Bulldogs' 61-14 rout of the Idaho Vandals.

Marteze Waller carried the ball 19 times for 157 yards and two scores for the Bulldogs (5-0), who are off to a 5-0 start for the first time since the 2001 season. Davante Adams caught 16 passes for 185 yards and three touchdowns.

"I thought our guys came out with a lot of intensity," Fresno State head coach Tim DeRuyter said. "We sustained it for the most part, got a little sloppy there in the third quarter, but I like our team. We got better this week,"

Chad Chalich connected on 14-of-32 passes for 100 yards, one touchdown and three interceptions for the Vandals (1-5), who failed to build off last week's win over Temple. Joshua McCain completed 3-of-8 passes for 77 yards, one touchdown and an interception.

"You can go back a million different ways about it," Idaho head coach Paul Petrino said. "The bottom line is they got after us."

Fresno State exploded for 28 points in the first quarter. Adams caught three passes on the Bulldogs' first possession of the game, including a 27-yard TD catch.

Chalich was then intercepted by Derron Smith. Isaiah Burse hauled in a 29-yard pass before Adams caught passes of 24, 16 and 17 yards, with the 17-yarder resulting in a score.

Another Chalich interception led to Josh Harper's 9-yard TD catch. Waller's 9-yard TD run later in the frame made it a 28-0 game.

Idaho was driving down the field at the end of the first stanza, when Michael LaGrone fumbled. Karl Mickelsen recovered the ball for Fresno State.

Marcel Jensen, Adams and Greg Watson caught passes of 43, 10 and 21 yards, respectively, before Burse's 2-yard touchdown catch.

Adams' 2-yard TD catch and Colin McGuire's 21-yard field goal made it 47-0 at the half.

Chalich was intercepted by Nikko Motta with six minutes to go in the third stanza. That set up Waller's 2-yard TD run.

Idaho's first points of the game came early in the fourth, when Dezmon Epps caught a 16-yard TD pass from McCain.

Darryl Cash's 1-yard TD run gave Fresno State a 61-7 lead. Chalich responded with a 15-yard touchdown pass to James Baker.
