Carr, Fresno State crush UNLV

Oct 20, 2013 - 7:36 AM Fresno, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Derek Carr threw four touchdown passes, all to Davante Adams, as No. 17 Fresno State rolled to a 38-14 win over UNLV on Saturday.

Carr finished 33-for-46 for 412 yards and Adams caught eight passes for 221 yards for the Bulldogs (6-0, 3-0 MWC), who matched the best start in school history with the win.

"He's good. We had no allusions about who they were on offense. They made their plays," UNLV head coach Bobby Hauck said of Carr.

In 2001, Carr's brother, David, also led the team to a 6-0 start.

"When the best quarterback to ever play here is your big brother and you can have both your names in a book someday that says you have records together, it means a tremendous deal to me," Carr said.

Caleb Herring completed 27-of-42 passes for 161 yards and a touchdown and Shaquille Murray-Lawrence carried the ball three times for 79 yards and a score for the Rebels (4-3, 2-1), who had their four-game winning streak snapped.

It was the school's longest streak since Randall Cunningham led the Rebels to seven straight wins in 1984.

Fresno State scored the first three touchdowns of the game to jump out to a 21-0 lead. On the first play from scrimmage, Carr found Adams along the right sideline for a 75-yard touchdown.

Carr went back to Adams later in the frame with a 28-yard touchdown pass, capping a 14-play, 79-yard trek.

Josh Quezada's 2-yard TD plunge early in the second made it 21-0.

The Rebels got on the board when Murray-Lawrence broke off a 73-yard touchdown run, but Carr and the Bulldogs answered just under two minutes later as the senior signal caller connected with Adams for the third time -- a 36-yard TD strike.

Herring's 13-yard touchdown completion to Marcus Sullivan cut UNLV's deficit to 28-14 at the break.

Carr went back to his favorite weapon for a 37-yard touchdown just over five minutes into the second half and Colin McGuire added a 36-yard field goal with 3:00 left in the third to account for the final margin.
