Final
Mauk and Missouri dominate Kentucky
Nov 10, 2013 - 12:16 AM Lexington, KY (SportsNetwork.com) - Maty Mauk threw five touchdown passes, including four to Dorial Green-Beckham, leading ninth-ranked Missouri to a 48-17 victory over Kentucky.Mauk completed 17-of-28 passes for 203 yards, with Green-Beckham accounting for 100 yards on seven receptions. Henry Josey ran for 113 yards on 11 carries with an 86-yard TD scamper in the victory.
"I felt good about everything that we were doing and we had a great week of practice," Mauk said. "The big thing is we came out and did it on the field this week and it was a great team effort today."
Missouri (9-1, 5-1 SEC) heads to a bye week still in control of the SEC East. The Tigers have won two in a row since a double-overtime loss to South Carolina and will close the season with a trip to Ole Miss before a visit from Texas A&M.
Jalen Whitlow threw for 225 yards and ran for 44 yards with a score for Kentucky (2-7, 0-5), which has dropped 13 straight conference games. The Wildcats haven't won an SEC contest since the 2011 season-finale against Tennessee.
"Tough day for us out there today. Very tough match-up," Kentucky head coach Mark Stoops said. "Give Missouri credit; they beat us in all three phases of the game."
Kentucky took its opening possession inside the Missouri five, but had to settle for a 21-yard Joe Mansour field goal, then recovered a fumble on the ensuing kickoff. Despite the great field position at the Missouri 44, the Wildcats were forced to punt and the Tigers took total control late in the opening quarter after another Kentucky punt.
A 13-yard punt gave Missouri the ball at the Kentucky 39 and Mauk had the Tigers in the end zone three plays later with an 8-yard scoring strike to Green-Beckham.
A blocked punt on the first play of the second quarter gave Missouri the ball at the Kentucky four and Josey scored on the following play for a 14-3 lead.
Mauk then threw TD passes on each of Missouri's next two possessions. He capped a 10-play, 67-yard march with a 7-yard strike to Green-Beckham to make it 21-3 and found Josey from six yards away to culminate a 15-play, 87-yard sequence near the end of the first half.
The Wildcats got a 1-yard touchdown run from Whitlow on the first series of the third quarter and appeared set to threaten for more when Raymond Sanders hauled in a 40-yard pass from Whitlow on the second play of the next Kentucky set. Sanders, though, fumbled at the end of the play and Missouri went the other way for a score.
Three plays after the turnover, Mauk hit Green-Beckham from 22 yards away for a 35-10 lead.
Sanders scored from the one late in the third to again pull Kentucky within 18, but the Tigers put it away with two scores in the fourth. Mauk found Green-Beckham with a 7-yard touchdown on the first play of the final period and Josey broke free for 86 yards on the first play of Mizzou's next series to account for the final margin.
