Carr throws 4 TDs as Fresno State topples Wyoming

Nov 10, 2013 - 8:09 AM Laramie, WY (SportsNetwork.com) - Once Derek Carr got humming, Fresno State's offense could not be stopped.

Carr threw four touchdown passes and No. 17 Fresno State remained unbeaten following a 48-10 triumph over Wyoming on Saturday.

The Cowboys jumped out to a 10-0 lead early in the second quarter before the Bulldogs tallied 48 unanswered points.

Carr was 33-of-46 for 360 yards, Josh Harper caught nine passes for 159 yards and Davante Adams hauled in 11 receptions for 79 yards and a score for Fresno State (9-0, 6-0 MWC), which is off to its best start since the 1989 squad won their first 10 games.

"Our goal today was just play as well as we can, and we didn't early. And give Wyoming credit for that. But I thought the last three quarters of the game we played pretty well," Fresno State head coach Tim DeRuyter said.

Josh Quezada carried the ball 16 times for 105 yards and a score, while Marcel Jensen caught a pair of TD passes in the triumph.

Brett Smith completed 18-of-32 throws for 141 yards with a touchdown and interception for the Cowboys (4-5, 2-3), who have dropped three straight tilts and four of their past five.

"The first half was exactly as we envisioned it. Obviously the second half wasn't," Wyoming head coach Dave Christensen said.

Smith flipped a 1-yard TD pass to Shaun Wick on Wyoming's second possession and Stuart Williams booted through a 27-yard field goal at the 12:53 mark of the second to stake Wyoming to its 10-point cushion.

Then the onslaught began.

Jensen took a Carr pass in the right flat and rumbled in untouched to cap Fresno State's ensuing drive, an eight-play, 75-yard trek. Following a Wyoming three-and-out, Carr lofted a pass to Isaiah Burse in the front right corner of the end zone for a 19-yard score to conclude a nine-play, 73-yard sequence and give the Bulldogs a 14-10 advantage with 5:39 left in the second.

Fresno State took its four-point spread into the locker room.

Quezada ran for gains of 14, 13, and 13 yards before Marteze Waller plunged in from three yards out on the Bulldogs' opening possession of the second half.

After Wyoming turned the ball over on downs, Fresno State faced a 4th-and-goal at the Cowboys' 2-yard line. Off play-action, Carr's back-footed toss found Jensen for the score and a 28-10 spread.

Quezada had a 2-yard TD run, Carr fired a 9-yard TD pass to Adams and Brian Burrell ran in from five yards out in the final frame to finish off the scoring.
