Nov 23, 2013 - 11:15 PM Columbia, SC (SportsNetwork.com) - Dylan Thompson threw two touchdowns and Brandon Wilds rushed for two scores as the No. 12 South Carolina Gamecocks destroyed the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers, 70-10, at Williams-Brice Stadium.

Thompson entered the game after Connor Shaw went 8-of-11 for 115 yards with a touchdown and rushed for 39 yards and a score. Thompson passed for 140 yards. Shaq Roland, Nick Jones, and Pharoh Cooper all caught touchdowns.

"We had Coastal Carolina outmanned and outsized. I'm really proud of our guys, they played well. I didn't know it was going to end up like this; I didn't know we were going to end up with 42 at the half. We scored about every time and messed up once and our defense played very well, so we kept getting the ball back," said South Carolina head coach Steve Spurrier.

Mike Davis, the SEC's leading rusher, sat out with a sprained ankle, but South Carolina (9-2, 6-2 SEC) still ran for 352 yards. The Gamecocks were also without defensive linemen Jadeveon Clowney and Kelcy Quarles.

Cooper ran for 81 yards with a rushing touchdown, while Jamari Smith led all South Carolina rushers with 103 yards on 10 carries and a touchdown. The Gamecocks extended their home winning streak to a school-record 17 games.

Alex Ross threw for 168 yards on 15-of-25 efficiency with a touchdown and an interception. Lorenzo Taliaferro hauled in Coastal Carolina's (10-2, 4-1 Big South) only touchdown.

"It was pretty tough. They just outplayed us up front and I think that was the big difference in the game. We got beat pretty bad up there," said Taliaferro.

The Gamecocks scored touchdowns on their first six drives. Shaw put them on the board when he rolled out to his right and launched a perfect pass to Roland, who dove into the end zone for a 35-yard touchdown. Smith ran through the middle from three yards out for his first career touchdown on the next possession to put South Carolina up by two touchdowns midway through the first quarter.

Shaw rushed for eight yards and then found Damiere Byrd for a 9-yard completion to place the Gamecocks at the Coastal Carolina's 1-yard line. Shaw ran the ball in from a yard out for the score.

After Coastal Carolina turned the ball over on downs, Thompson connected with Jones from 34 yards out on a post route to put South Carolina up 28-0 with 43 seconds remaining in the first.
