Winston, Florida State rout Idaho

Nov 24, 2013 - 1:40 AM Tallahassee, FL ( - While a dark cloud hovers over the Florida State program, head coach Jimbo Fisher just wants his players to focus on football.

The Seminoles were able to do that Saturday, but it may get tougher over the next couple of weeks.

Jameis Winston threw four touchdown passes as No. 2 Florida State routed Idaho, 80-14, at Doak Campbell Stadium.

The Seminoles remained one of six unbeaten teams in the nation, but Winston's status remains uncertain as many lingering questions have yet to be answered in his sexual assault case.

A decision on whether to charge the Heisman Trophy candidate with a crime is expected to be made sometime next week.

A DNA analysis confirmed that the sample Winston provided to law enforcement matched the DNA found in the underwear of the accuser in Winston's sexual assault investigation, according to a report by ESPN on Wednesday.

The DNA finding doesn't prove that Winston is guilty and Winston's lawyer, Tim Jansen, claims the sex between his client and the alleged victim was consensual.

Despite the allegations, Winston remained his gregarious self. He completed 14-of-25 passes for 225 yards for the Seminoles (11-0), who will play Florida next Saturday in their regular-season finale.

The 80 points scored broke the school record of 77 set in 1995.

Devonta Freeman carried the ball 11 times for 129 yards and a touchdown, Karlos Williams added 114 rushing yards and two scores on 10 totes, while Kenny Shaw caught five passes for 107 yards and two touchdown in the triumph.

Dezmon Epps had seven receptions for 126 yards for Idaho (1-10).

FSU tallied touchdowns on six of its eight first-half possessions to build a 42-7 cushion at the break.

Freeman broke off a 60-yard TD run on the Seminoles' first touch before Winston hit Kelvin Benjamin for a 32-yard score on their next offensive sequence to make it 14-0 less than 10 minutes into the first quarter.

Epps hauled in a 68-yard reception as Idaho drove down to the FSU 16 late in the period, but Telvin Smith intercepted a Taylor Davis pass and went 79 yards the other way for a 21-0 Seminoles' lead.

Winston fired a 46-yard TD strike to Shaw early in the second and James Wilder Jr. plunged in for a score from a yard out later on to extend the lead to 35-0.

Davis flipped a 15-yard touchdown pass to Richard Montgomery to get Idaho on the board with 41 ticks left in the half, but Shaw caught a 20-yard TD pass from Winston right before the break.

Benjamin had a 21-yard touchdown reception, Williams ran in for a 4-yard score and Robert Aguayo booted through a 42-yard field goal in the third quarter as the Seminoles took a 59-7 advantage into the fourth.

Williams broke off a 25-yard TD run and backup quarterback Sean Maguire tossed a 2-yard scoring pass to Ryan Green before E.J. Levenberry's 78-yard interception return for a touchdown made it 80-7 with 4:19 left.

Joshua McCain hit Najee Lovett for a 14-yard score with 42 ticks on the clock to cap the scoring.
