Cecchini possibly Valparaiso football choice?

Dec 10, 2013 - 1:20 PM Valparaiso, IN (SportsNetwork.com) - A report Tuesday says Lehigh University offensive coordinator Dave Cecchini will become the new head football coach at Valparaiso University.

Footballscoop.com said sources indicate Cecchini will succeed Dale Carlson, who was fired on Nov. 10. Mike Gravier finished the season as interim head coach.

If Cecchini becomes Valparaiso's coach, he would try to raise a program near the bottom of the FCS ranks. The Crusaders, from the non-scholarship Pioneer Football League, are a combined 4-51 over the past five seasons.

Cecchini also is the quarterbacks coach at Lehigh, his alma mater. He recently completed the fourth season of his second stint with the Mountain Hawks' nationally ranked program. He spent nine seasons in his first stint at the Patriot League school, including two as assistant head coach

He also has been an offensive coordinator at Harvard and The Citadel.
