Texas meets dangerous TCU for first time in 12 years

AUSTIN, Texas (Ticker) -- Texas Christian would love nothing more than to knock off old Southwest Conference rival Texas. If the Longhorns play as they did in their season opener, the Horned Frogs might have an excellent shot.

After a ho-hum start to their season, the seventh-ranked Longhorns meet the 19th-ranked Horned Frogs for the first time in 12 years on Saturday at Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium.

Texas holds a 60-21-1 lead against TCU, but the teams have not met since a 27-19 Longhorns victory in 1995, the final year of the SWC.

Since then, Texas has been in the Big 12 Conference while TCU has bounced around from the Western Athletic Conference to Conference USA to their current Mountain West Conference.

Missing receiver Billy Pittman, who was suspended three games for illegally using a friend's car over the summer, Colt McCoy threw two touchdown passes but also two interceptions in the Longhorns' 21-13 victory over Arkansas State last weekend.

TCU, meanwhile, is coming off a 27-0 blanking of another Big 12 team - Baylor. The shutout was especially impressive considering the Horned Frogs were without star defensive end Tommy Blake, who missed the game with an undisclosed illness.

The Horned Frogs, who have won nine straight games overall, are 5-0 since 2005 against Big 12 opposition, yielding just 8.8 points per contest.

Texas has won 14 straight over TCU in Austin since a 24-17 loss in 1967.
