UL Lafayette going back to New Orleans Bowl

Dec 4, 2014 - 3:02 AM New Orleans, LA (SportsNetwork.com) - Louisiana-Lafayette will have an opportunity to win an unprecedented fourth consecutive New Orleans Bowl after formally accepting an invitation to return to the event on Wednesday.

The Ragin Cajuns have become a fixture in the game, having defeated San Diego State in 2011 and East Carolina in 2013 before downing in-state rival Tulane in last year's New Orleans Bowl. That game set a bowl attendance record of 54,728 fans.

"We are thrilled that the Ragin Cajuns have accepted our invitation and will be representing the Sun Belt Conference for the fourth year in a row," said New Orleans Bowl chairman Ron Gardner. "Each year, the game brings thousands of local and out-of-state fans to the city to enjoy a weekend of good times and we are positive that the Cajuns will once again help raise the bar for the success of the bowl."

Louisiana earned this latest invite by producing an 8-4 record and a 7-1 record in Sun Belt play, finishing second to Georgia Southern in the conference standings.

This year's New Orleans Bowl will take place on Dec. 20 at the Superdome, with the Ragin Cajuns to take on an opponent from the Mountain West.
