White, Slaton look to keep West Virginia rolling

Sep 22, 2007 - 12:35 PM East Carolina (1-2) at No. 5 West Virginia (3-0) 12:00 pm EDT

MORGANTOWN, West Virginia (Ticker) -- Pat White and Steve Slaton show no signs of slowing down.

White and Slaton lead No. 5 West Virginia into their non-conference matchup with East Carolina on Saturday.

Thanks to dual-threat quarterback White and star running back Slaton, not to mention freshman tailback Noel Devine, the Mountaineers rank second nationally in rushing at 343.67 yards per game.

Last Thursday, West Virginia pulled away from host Maryland, 31-14, after collecting 353 yards on the ground. Slaton led the way with 137 yards and three touchdowns, while Devine broke through for 136 yards on just five carries.

While West Virginia improved to 3-0 on the young campaign, East Carolina slipped to 1-2 with a 28-21 home setback to Southern Mississippi.

The Pirates trailed at the half by two touchdowns before scoring 21 straight third-quarter points to take the lead.

But they gave up a pair of one-yard TD runs to quarterback Jeremy Young in the fourth quarter, including one with 32 seconds left.

Patrick Pinkney threw for 203 yards and two TDs with an interception in the defeat.

West Virginia leads the all-time series, 16-2.
