Lafayette football player dies after car crash

Jun 25, 2015 - 5:41 PM Easton, PA (SportsNetwork.com) - Lafayette College football player Brian Keller died Thursday as the result of injuries sustained in a car accident two days earlier in New Jersey.

Keller, 21, a senior tight end from Somerdale, New Jersey, was hospitalized Tuesday morning following a one-car crash on Interstate 295 in Mansfield Township, Burlington County.

In a message to the campus community, Lafayette president Alison Byerly said, "The outpouring of support over the last several days from friends, teammates, fellow student-athletes, coaches, faculty, staff and other members of the Lafayette community is a testament to how greatly Brian will be missed.

"We extend deepest condolences to Brian's parents, Mark and Susan Keller, his brother, Alex, and his sisters, Amy and Emily. We will share information about services when it becomes available. A campus commemoration of Brian's life will be held after students return for the fall semester."

Keller started seven of 11 games as a junior last year, catching 24 passes for 320 yards and three touchdowns. The 6-foot-4, 250-pounder played in 21 career games, including nine during Lafayette's 2013 Patriot League championship season.

Lafayette recruiting coordinator and running backs coach Phil Hallahan tweeted a tribute to Keller: "Heaven is getting a TE who is impossible to tackle. We love you Keller."
